Upstate N.Y. Man Faces Mandatory Jail Time for Break-in

Poughkeepsie, N.Y., March 16, 2009 -- The Poughkeepsie Journal has reported that a 44-year-old local man who broke into a convenience store on January 25 faces a mandatory two to four years in state prison for the crime.

The man entered a guilty plea to attempted burglary, a felony, on March 11 in Dutchess County Court. He told Judge Gerald V. Hayes that he broke a window at the store and stole lottery tickets.

Under New York State law, the man must serve a mandatory prison term for the crime because he had been convicted of a previous felony within the last 10 years.

He will be sentenced in April.
